Everyone today has to admit that poverty, disease and war are still the perennial scourges that plague the lives of millions of people worldwide, hampering their capacity to develop and placing a huge financial burden on the economies of their countries.
Health inequalities between nations and also inside countries are one of the most glaring injustices. Which is why the Sanofi Espoir Foundation has set itself the goal of helping to reduce them. It has focused its efforts on three key, high-impact areas: diagnosing and treating early childhood cancers, reducing maternal and newborn mortality, and ensuring access to healthcare for those who are most exposed to danger.
In five years, the Foundation progressed, and had concrete results : three million people have already received care; 16 million have benefited from preventive actions and health education; and 47,000 health workers have received training.
This remarkable achievement has enabled the Foundation to rapidly acquire global status and recognition from major health institutions, as well as from the countries that benefit from its programs. As a result of the joint efforts of all our partners - communities, NGOs, global health experts and local medical staff –it has been possible to build entrepreneurial solidarity on a large scale and help improve local health systems on a sustainable basis.
By helping lower the barriers that prevent the most vulnerable social groups from access to basic healthcare, we are attacking the structural causes of poverty all over the world
