The Sanofi Espoir Foundation signs a humanitarian partnership with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

December 19th, 2017

Xavier Darcos, Chairman of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, signed a partnership agreement with Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, at the Quai d' Orsay in Paris on December 19, 2017. This agreement now links the Foundation to the Ministry's Crisis Center, an operational unit that has been coordinating France's response to humanitarian crises abroad since 2008.

Twenty-one other foundations and companies have signed this partnership, including Airbus, Carrefour, Chanel, EDF, Mérieux, Schneider Electric, Suez and Veolia.

In addition, the TULIPE association joined this cooperation community to expand the medical response. TULIPE, to which the Sanofi Espoir Foundation is a member, federates donations of medicines from healthcare companies to provide emergency workers with health product kits.

This partnership is a response to the recurring needs of French cooperation. As stated by the Ministry: "The private sector plays a growing and indispensable role in managing emergency humanitarian situations, by mobilizing people and synergies to optimize relief operations. These partnerships take various forms including donations in kind, sponsoring expertise and co-financing projects. They illustrate the Quai d' Orsay's desire to work closely with private players and civil society through innovative and ambitious projects."

Crisis and support center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs

This center is tasked with monitoring, anticipating, alerting and managing crises abroad that require either a response to an event threatening the security of French nationals abroad or emergency humanitarian action. It is also responsible for supporting the post-crisis stabilization process. The CDCS establishes relations with other actors in international humanitarian aid and develops partnerships with civil society, local authorities and businesses. It participates in the formulation and implementation of the Government's policy on emergency humanitarian action and reconstruction support.
