(Young People’s Health Solidarity Springboards)

November 21, 2011

Sanofi Espoir Foundation and its partner Santé Sud launched the Tremplins Jeunes Solidarité Santé (Young People’s Health Solidarity Springboards) to encourage French students' associations to set up international healthcare solidarity projects in emerging countries.

Ranging from vaccination to health education and disability to food safety in the Comoros, Mali, Burkina Faso and Laos, 25 French student associations participated in this first Springboards event.

The jury of experts from Santé Sud, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, the French Centre for Research and Training in Tropical Medicine and Health (CFRMST) and the Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion Division assessed each of the projects according to a dozen or so criteria, including action sustainability, relevance to the local context, and how far they meet the Millennium Development Goals for healthcare.

During the 6th Provence Humanitarian Healthcare Event in Marseille on November 18, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation and Santé Sud presented the awards to four student association winners:

  • ASC (Action Soldarité Communication in Aix-en-Provence) for its project “Mali Sun” project to improve immunization coverage in rural areas.
  • Lyon Solidaire for its project on “Global Healthcare” – creating a maternity ward in Mali.
  • Mission Potosi (Cergy Pontoise) for its project of “Promoting children's healthcare with respect to mines” in Potosi, Bolivia.
  • Pharma Humanitaire (Montpellier) for its “TOGO Mission” project to improve socio-sanitary conditions in isolated healthcare centers.

As well as financial support of €5,000 per project, the winners of the four associations will have a day’s project management training from Santé Sud, and project-long support from a volunteer sponsor selected by Sanofi.
